Let’s be real, college isn’t just about hitting the books and making it to class on time. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but one of the best ways to balance school, meet people, and make an impact is by volunteering on campus. Whether you’re looking to build skills, network, or just give back, KSU has plenty of opportunities to get involved.

We’re breaking down some of the top ways to volunteer on campus so you know where to start. Nothing worse than wanting to help out but not knowing where to go!

This week’s blog is all about the different opportunities on campus to volunteer, from student organizations to service projects, so you can make the most of your college experience. The best part? Many opportunities are flexible and don’t require a huge time commitment, so even busy Owls can participate!

Student Organizations & Clubs

To start things off, student organizations are a fantastic way to volunteer while also connecting with peers. From service clubs like Alpha Phi Omega to cultural and advocacy groups, there’s a chance to support causes you care about and make new friends.

Student organizations often host events like food drives, tutoring sessions, and campus clean-ups. Personally, helping organize a campus-wide charity fundraiser was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. It took teamwork and planning, but seeing the impact we made on the community? Totally worth it.

Pro Tip: Freshmen and sophomores, take note! Many clubs hold rush events or volunteer fairs at the beginning of the semester. This is the perfect time to sign up and figure out which group fits your interests best.

Community Service Projects

Next up, KSU hosts a variety of community service projects right on campus and in the surrounding areas. Whether it’s helping out at local shelters, mentoring youth, or participating in environmental clean-ups, these projects let you give back in a meaningful way. If you are wanting to give in a more relaxed way, they even have bins set up that you can just drop items in.

Many of these volunteer projects are short-term and drop-in friendly, which makes it easy to fit into a busy college schedule. Take it from us seniors, these experiences aren’t just good for your resume—they’re good for your perspective and personal growth too!

Campus Events & Peer Mentoring

Last but not least, volunteering at campus events or as a peer mentor is another excellent way to get involved. From orientation programs to student workshops and campus tours, these opportunities allow you to support fellow Owls while practicing leadership and communication skills.

Peer mentoring or event volunteering may involve helping out for just a few hours, but it’s a chance to connect with students and staff, develop professional skills, and feel like a part of the campus community. Plus, nothing beats the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped someone navigate college life a little easier.

So, whether you’re looking to meet new people, gain experience, or make a positive impact, volunteering on campus has something for everyone. Take advantage of student organizations, community service projects, and event volunteering to make your time at KSU not just about classes, but about growth, connection, and giving back.
